My Christmas Presents To Myself
I recently received an email from Andy's announcing 20% off everything on the website. I finally ordered the Cleisocentron I've been meaning to try to kill, and a Sievekingia which should do well for me. I believe I showed remarkable restraint!

I'm bad...just ordered 3 masdies from them tonight since I'm having luck with the "warmer" varieties. And Subrosa,I also have a small Sievekingia from Ecugenera bought bareroot but I potted it up and looks to be sending up growths! Supposedly is like a small Stanhopea which I'm trying as well. Good luck to us!

I just finished ordering three orchids from Hausermann's. There isn't a sale but their orchids are always a good deal.

Hi, I am terrified of ordering orchids in the winter. The last time I tried, it ended up in a snow storm in Dallas, and they put it in a warehouse for a week where it froze to death. I will never use the regular mail!!! But I am wondering how you get yours set up their in the cold North? I am in what is supposed to be the sunbelt, but it seems the packages have to travel by inexplicable routes that lead them from the warm areas. I have a feeling if I ordered from Florida, it would be sent to Upstate New York and then through Montana to get to me in New Mexico!!!

If you really need to have that orchid/plant fix in the winter, order from a business that is established for many years. These businesses will do all that they can to ensure safe delivery of their plants.
Logees, Hausermann's and Al's Orchid Greenhouse will hold the orchids until the weather is decent for shipping. Al insulates the boxes with foam insulation and includes a heating pack when he does ship them. Hausermann's wraps everything really well and includes a heating pack, too.
Andy's will call and make certain you will be home or they will ask permission to send them to a place and have you pick them up.
Seattle Orchids sells a heating pack to guarantee safe delivery and says on their site that they will hold the orchids. This will be my first 'cold weather' order so I cannot really confirm what will happen (I did buy the heat pack, though).
I have no idea what Exotic Orchids of Maui does as I only ordered from them during the warm weather. The only time I ever ordered from Hawaii (very long ago, the days when you had to call companies on the phone to order) during the winter, it was clear when my orchids/plants arrived that the company had no idea what winter was. I have been a little wary of ordering from Hawaii during cooler weather since (though I'll bet that most of the companies there are very good about the shipping).

I think I will just wait for spring. I have plenty here to keep me occupied.

I'm trying to cut down on my orchid-shopping, as I'm running out of space and having a hard time keeping everything watered. But on the other hand, Carter & Holmes has Black Friday deals and one of them is this really cute Bulbophyllum.

I was running out of room but I found the mini's on a stick don't require much room
