Their plants are always top quality, but their prices... I window shop at their ebay listings and then find them cheaper from other vendors. I was kinda looking forward to a combined shipping sort of thing, but looks like they're just following their pricing from ebay. Shipping... the thorn in every orchid grower's side.

Hawaii is a 5-some hour flight from Los Angeles or San Francisco.

If you've never ordered from Kawamoto...rest assured, their plants are worth every penny they ask.
They are typically very large, mature/bloom-size or very close to BS, and exceptionally healthy orchids. If they have something that needs to come live w/me...I never balk at the asking price.
As for the shipping prices...it's 2 day express w/Fedex and the price really isn't bad for that service. Plus, I love the *real* tracking...unlike what we get w/USPS. Personally, I usually choose 2nd day express shipping w/most vendors and I often pay more for plants shipped from locations much closer than HI.

I thought the shipping was included in the price.
Their show prices are very reasonable; add shipping to that and it could be the online prices.

Yes it is. The shipping is built into the price.
I also agree that their show pricing is almost a bargain. You can get some great deals from them if you happen to be where they are visiting a show.

Yes, both on the home page, and shipping info page, it says "free shipping" - so, I imagine that increases the plant price a bit ...

I want a greenhouse large enough to house a Grammatophyllum collection.

Their gram. house must be huge. I swear they rent/supply to all of the hotels on Waikiki for weeks or months on end. And sometimes it's not just a few plants here and there, but HUGE displays. Makes me want to go in the middle of the night and snatch one if it weren't for the cameras and the pesky customs agents!
