Thank you all for your input. Now I will be better prepared. The orchid I wanted doesn't seem to be available anywhere, so I may have missed my chance. I wanted to get the Burr. Nelly Isler, and the only other place I have seen them is Orchids.com, and I had a bad experience with them so I am afraid to order from there.

Questions about buying on Ebay Male

I have never bid on plants, but I have bought other things on Ebay.

If bidding, I either add the item to my watch list or bid once at the lowest possible level (bidding once at a low level will give me an indication if others are seriously watching the item). Then I decide what is the most I am willing to pay for the item, and I make a note to come back a few minutes before bidding closes. I get everything ready to bid my maximum price, then submit my bid within the last few seconds of bidding. If I made an earlier lower bid, and no one bids higher in those last seconds, I still get the item at the lower bid price. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

That isn't a rare or unusual plant. You should be able to find other sources. If it isn't currently available, it will be.

Marlow's has them listed in their catalog. They are near Rochester, NY and open to the public (save on shipping if you are near enough).

I've not dealt with them so

If you do go, take a camera and leave your CCs at home!

I actually visited them last year on their open house. I bought 4 orchids of which one was Nelly Isler. Jim told me that they were looking kind of poor, so he gave me a special, lower price, but it did not improve and ended up dying. I made a post at the time laughing at the $30 worth of gas, $20 for thruway tolls, and a day off from work, making it a very uneconomical trip Plus we had to have 2 meals out because we were gone all day.

I did check it out and it is listed as "out of stock" , so I did enter my email address to be notified if/when it comes back into stock. Thanks for the tip

Oh, you aren't near! I hope it was an enjoyable day despite the monetary cost.

I found another vendor, Akatsuka but they are currently out of stock. I wouldn't have mentioned it but the price is best I've seen.

If you do miss out on something you can always contact the seller and ask if they have any more of them, many times they do....Jean
