Some species do bring their herds of aphids…

There's soft ways to make them depart. Half hot peppers, rotting lemon bits…

Put the hot pepper and rotting lemon by the plant or juices on the plant?

Haven't really had a chance to do much outside because of all the rain, but I haven't seen the ants again since trying to flush them out. Maybe the ones that survived decided they didn't want to deal with any more of that (or rather, I guess the queen decided for them, wherever she is).

They act as repulsives by themselves, on top of the plant for the pot, on the ants walk to stop them, or as a barrier of protection.

Diatomea can do too, but it's killing them.
