Talking Moving to Winter Garden, FL!

I am super excited about this move and was curious If anyone local has orchids or where the best places to purchase orchids would be. Looking for a oncidium and another Cattleya! Thanks.

Welcome! I'm 30-40(?) miles from your new home. If you're here already, there's some shows coming up in driving distance- Central Florida O.S. this weekend, Volusia O.S. Mother's Day weekend (okay might be a haul for you), Platinum Coast O.S. early in May (Cocoa)... I haunt various Lowe's, they get both bag babies and bloomers Home Depot does also but not as nice a variety, flea markets (one in Celebration I've heard one of the nurseries sets up at), and keep an eye on Craigslist for plants at garage sales and we have a very nice lady who has 'orchid yard sales' in the Orlando area a couple times a year. EFG is near where the Volusia show will be held, and Krull-Smith is in Apopka. From Winter Garden, the Tampa area isn't too bad a drive so I'd look at their club's show dates also.

There is a decent orchid vendor at the Maitland Farmers' Market every Sunday.

When will you be down here? I'm not familiar with most of the central Florida growers but I know Smiley's Orchids in that area. She grows mostly vandas. Krull-Smith isn't too far away and they're top breeders of cattleyas. Frank Smith is one of the owners and he's president of the American Orchid Society. In about 2 1/2 or 3 hours you could drive to Odom's Orchids in Ft. Pierce. John Odom is one of the biggest cattleya growers in the country. If you want to drive for 5 hours, you could visit Homestead where there are about a dozen commercial orchid growers. In May there's the Redlands Orchid Festival in Homestead, which is the biggest international orchid show in the country.
