So... as far as the african violet goes... I'm gonna say something that might be sacrilege. Are you ready for it?
Miracle Gro African Violet Potting Mix and liquid african violet fertilizer. This is supposed to be easy, after all.
Get yourself a self watering african violet pot sized for your plant. This will make your life so much easier. Use the liquid fertilizer, mixed at half what the directions say... and put this in your self watering container's reservoir and leave it there.
I purchased a little guy about the size of yours last year from a local nursery. Cute variegated plant with green and white leaves... and the darned thing tried to die on me when I followed the green house's directions for keeping it alive. It wasn't working for me, so I did what I always do with them and it bounced back. Stick them in a self watering pot, stick that in a sunny window and forget about it for a week. I turn the pot a quarter turn when I think about it, to make sure that the growth is nice and even and that's it.
Nice haul!
I have found B. Nodosa to be really, really easy to grow, even at this size. I have two because mine divided itself. I water them when they're bone dry and fertilize weekly and stick them next to my cattleya and they just grow. I don't think you will need to worry about it at all as long as you give it enough light.
