I am noticing cymbidium orchids in about half of the scenes in Clueless!

I just wanted to share. Where else are you seeing orchids in pop culture and media?

Phals seem to be a common set accessory in TV and movie "upscale office" or "suburban home" sets. I see them often, by can't recall a specific example. I'll keep my eyes open.

I'm always amazed by the overwhelming amount of orchids on the set of fashion police.

Yeah, I most often see cymbidiums and phals. I often see others different from these on Star Trek because they look so unique and alien that they are passed off as plants from alien worlds. Just like on Star Trek how they often use kiwano melons, rambutan, lychee, and other fruits we don't often see in the western and/or non-tropical parts of the world.

One of the most interesting "orchid on TV show" was an old Perry Mason episode. One of the first scenes took place in a nursery where I saw some large catts. One of the characters had some very expensive orchids and someone wanted to buy her nursery, but she didn't want to sell. I got excited, I'm thinking of a murder in the greenhouse and lot's of flowers.... Raymond Burr is well known for his orchids, so this was going to be good. I was wondering if this was when he became interested in orchids. So then the show turned and became more about the husband of the grower who was selling the nursery behind her back because he had a gambling addiction. No further orchid's to be seen.

If you have Netflix, they have a series called Midsommer Murders and there is one that is all about orchids, Orchis Fatalis. After hearing about it, I had to watch it. You see Phals in many of their episodes.

The Rex Stout mysteries (books) is what got me interested in orchids. I had orchids but gave them away as I found them dull but, after reading the books, I gave orchids another try. I have not found them dull since.

In one episode of Mama's Family (Season 4, Episode 23 "Bed and Breakdown" to be exact) a guest brings over a Phalaenopsis (which he incorrectly calls a Paphiopedilum) that is to be displayed at an orchid show the next day. The sad thing is, in that crazy house, it ends up getting torn to pieces!

I wonder if they intentionally mis-named it to troll the orchid-lovers watching the show, haha
