Oh, yeah, the leaves look kind of tough, but what we can see of the roots looks pretty good, so my bet is it will pull through with some proper care

thanks, sprayed it with systemic fungicide treatment a couple of days ago and yesterday sprayed it with Bordeaux mixture to stop any fungal spores.
the funky parts don't seem to have gotten any worse and its growing some new roots so I'm hopeful.

My little guy came today. Now I need some advice. Note the loooong roots. I want to repot it, but I don't quite know what to do with those roots. All my other catts are in bark chips in plastic pots. I don't know if I should put it into a bigger pot and put all those roots in, or if I should Put it into a net pot with some bark and try to feed all of those roots out through the holes. Please help

I'm not sure what you should do, if it was mine id probably put it in a net pot because of all the air roots but that might not suit your environment.
hopefully somebody more experienced with cats will post

Those roots are fabulous!
I grow my 'Blue Hawaii' in a no 6 basket pot with LECA. Some of the other walkeriana hybrids are in plastic Vanda baskets. If you need to use a no 8 basket pot, you could always use red lava rock.

I don't have a net pot bigger than the one it's in, so I potted it up in this 4 inch pot with lava rock. I have a couple of questions. One is about how long should I let it soak to be sure the lava rock soaks up some water, and do you think I should put a little moss on the roots that are above the lava to keep them moist also ?

Hi,
Nice orchid. I did a search and came up with about 2 minutes. Lava rock is deceptive and will soak up and retain water for a few days. Even though the rock is dry on top it will be damp below.
I use moss on top of my orchids, without any side affects. Be careful not to over water. Donna

Went to the orchid society meeting. I brought home a Neofinetia Shutenno, Platystele stenostachya and Eurychone rothschildiana.
