I have often read here on the OrchidBoard that the big box stores carry lots of different orchids in the form of potted plants as well as 'bag babies'. On my last vacation, I wanted to see it for myself.
My local 'big box store' only seems to carry a steady supply of Phals, but this one in Fort Meyers, Florida, had dozens and dozens of all different types of orchids—Cattleyas, Oncidiums, Phals, Paphs, Vandas, Dendros—tons of them! I bought a couple of bag babies myself, just because I could!
While in the store, I got to see a Paphiopedilum in action! The flower is designed to trap insects in such a way that they must squeeze past the pollen on their way out...a lesson this fly is quickly discovering!
