Orchids I found (but didn't buy) in the store today!
Hey everyone!
I wanted to share the photos of orchids who I left behind today!
From Fred Meyer
I saw a zygopetalum, as well as a brassia with veeeeeery long petals.
I also saw a gorgeous purple and white oncidium-type orchid there, fragrant, and it even had a second flower spike coming up from between the leaves. I passed it up because I've overspent this month, but gosh it was gorgeous! I am probably going to kick myself over that one for a while haha!
Another interesting orchid I saw was a purplish phal with slightly ruffled petals, and odd "scarring" marks on the sides. It made me think of Star Trek... the vidiians, but in a much more visually appealing way.
From Trader Joe's
I saw two zygonisia orchids in TJs (not pictured).
I also saw the little baby paphiopedilum which I bought for $8 (it has its own post in the beginner thread).
They had a gorgeous purple spotted oncidium type with spotted leaves. They often have similar hybrids around but they look like they were colored with a crayon and this one looked like it was watercolored by a master!
There was also an orchid that I can't identify. It looks like it has cattleya-type flowers, but they are on a spike which is coming out of a bulb? They were a rich wine color but otherwise the plant was unimpressive.
They even had a special little phal with a jagged edge to its lip. It was too cute! So tiny!
Well, enjoy the pictures everyone!!

Glad I didn't see them! The pic 3 Bllra? is stunning! They are all lovely. My TJs gets really good orchids, but they never have ID tags which I don't like.. I really wish they did.

You have way more will power than I do. I would have been posting pics of these sitting on my counter at home!

It's not so much willpower as it is being a college student with a 200sqft dorm and a $200/month stipend -gracias a mi padre- to cover incidental expenses.
I would've absolutely gotten the Beallara "Ikes Yikes" but I couldn't afford it.. even if it was only $16.
Someday when I have a real job and a house I may just overrun it with plants, but it won't be for a while, haha!
