Default Annual plant auction grabs

I got the plant I went there for, but everything else was going for way to high of a price. It's great for the club so I'm not disappointed, but I thought I'd get more plants.

I really wanted an Aussie dendrobium from SVO, but they were a hot ticket. They went for $40 a piece, most of them.

Came home with ctsm. Vroni and a $3 noID cattleya division.

Great finds!

The North Jersey Orchid Society auction is next Thurs (Aug 14). I've got my eye on lots of possibilities, if the prices don't go too high.

Yeah, hopefully you have more luck than I did in the price department. I picked out 10 plants, but only seriously bid on one of them because they were going for so high. Be sure to post your grabs. I'm always interested in what the different societies auction off.

You can find the list and the cultural info with pic for each plant at North Jersey Orchid Society | An Affiliate of the American Orchid Society

It is so helpful to know what plants will be there ahead of time. That is one thing I will be suggesting to my club for next year. I knew there would be Catasetums because I asked, but other than that I had no idea. A lot of the plants no one knew what the blooms would be like lol.

Wish NJ was closer. I love the Anguloas!

We're found that publishing the list boosts attendance and hence prices; and since our goal is fundraising, that is a good thing!

I prepare the pictures/culture info and it is a lot of work, but Orchid Wiz makes it easier. I print the picture & culture pages 6 to a sheet cut them out and tape them to the associated plants so people go home with the info.

We also allow people to put their own orchids in the auction (duplicates, divisions, etc. - they just need to be well established, bug free, etc., and we reserve the right to refuse anything and when it sells they have 50% of the selling price off of their purchases. We probably have 30 of our 89 plants that have been donated this way. I created a spreadsheet to track the sales and who gets what so we can easily collect the right amount from each person immediately after the auction - There is always someone we have to chase after for payment, but most people pay before they leave.

it's a fun evening as our auctioneer is hilarious!

Come visit NJ!
