It's an L. Purpurata var. striata. Gorgeous, isn't it?

Hah, I'm very enthusiastic about it all - I try my best to give "the bug" to other people, and so far, I've managed to "infect" one other resident at the assisted living facility I live in. She has 7 orchids now.

I have a double-bench arbor in my yard that is perfect for some hanging pots...I so need pot hangers...oh I can only wonder how the rest of the summer will go and gosh how things will add up come winter...as I shake my fist in envy at all you warm climate folks who never have to bring them in!!! I feel the same way. All my orchids are inside though, mostly because I do want them near when they bloom for the exact same reason that you do - so I can stare at them for as long as possible.
I wouldn't take the risk of stressing the plant (and possibly losing the blooms) by bringing it inside though, but if someone with more experience than me says it shouldn't be a problem, then, certainly, go for it!

I know, right?! I'm not much of a Catt/Laelia-type fan (I'm more of a Phal, Epidendrum, Cymbidium and Dendrobium kind of girl, haha), but the Purpurata var. striata is one of my favorite orchids, period.

And no selling it! I promise! I'll use it to haul orchids from the nursery to my apartment instead (which is, btw, a single-room apartment; 80 orchids in a single room apartment - picture that! )
I've learned there's a term for people like us, by the way. I believe it's "orchidiots".

I love everyones stories they are just so great. Makes me smile thinking 80 orchids in one small room where do you sleep?

Well, there's a small chest of drawers, a bed, a couch, a desk and a living room table, and that's it - the orchids are on the floor in front of the window that faces my porch, as well as all over the chest of drawers, living room table and desk. Every usable surface is put to use.

I TOTALLY FEEL YOU! One look, and all of me ignited and leapt up to the ceiling! I only buy orchids which make me salivate....tho that was not the reality when I was hostage to my orchid slut phase.
If I came upon one of THOSE....I would get my CC out at warpspeed! Not to mention....it is PERFECTLY GROWN!!!
BRAVA!

Next you will be like the rest of the gang and hanging them from the ceiling, as well as use your wall space. They use rope walls and hang them from it.

Put that in place long ago, wrote about all of it, my inventions, etc., how I came to all I did and continue to. It generated responses from people in 7 countries; I was gob smacked.
By the by, one of my very first orchids is one I still adore: lc. Rojo. Famous orchid. Simple, stunning clear red with wonderful form.
PS: I grow 90% of my phals hanging.

You will have to share with me that special orchid. Does it seed at all. Or do you have to divide it by splitting it in some form or another.

Do U mean Lc. Rojo? If so, you would just cut a division! I have given all mine divisions away, cause I just don't have the room to grow more than one pot of a given thing unless I can grow it hanging. Hold on...pretty sure I made pics of my rojo! I will go look!
K, I am back...found one from last bloom, but it is redder than it looks here. Reds are not easy to photograph, Charles Marden Fitch has written about that. But you may get some idea.

Correction! Was in a hurry and put up image of one of my other favs: Slc. Jewel Box 'Dark Waters" another famous red one I love a lot.....I will now go back and find an image of the rojo!
