Very early on after I got bitten, I figured out I could and should install more ceiling hooks (this is a pre-war Landmark building so you need good masonry bits) and hang all my Phals! (I was already growing giant houseplants hung from ceiling hooks.)
But in my case, only Phals, simply because they want fewer footcandles to grow well than members of other alliances I grow! And that continues to work magnificently.
I would suggest you monitor those you've hung, to make sure each individual is getting the footcandles it wants to be healthy and happy!
But you are absolutely in very big (but very happy) autopilot trouble....just saw with my own eyes.
I relate!

Currently in Ireland on holidays. Attended the World flower show in Dublin and bypassed the floral arrangements and headed straight for the designs with orchids first. AND made sure to check out OB every day over a pint of Guiness of course😍
Although I know every single orchid in my possession, I do not count them. My kids knocked over plants and tried to cover up. Only to have me go trolling and ask about specific plants

WOW YOU PEOPLE ARE CRAZY!!! And I, AM NOT AN ADDICT.
At the beginning of the year I had maybe 5...I now have 65...
I look forward to checking OB every day.
My first visit to Hausermann's I spent over 4 hours browsing most of the facility and talking to some ladies about what I've learned thus far (hopefully I helped!). Last time I was there was only about 2 hours, no more if that.
For a while I trolled eBay looking for Orchid sellers to follow, then once I found them I used to check every day to see if they'd added any new listings.
Have one pod developing and 8 more flowers pollinated (some doubles in case the other doesn't take). Planning to breed my mini Catts when they come into bloom.
A corner of my yard is now going to be designated my Orchid Garden.
I can't not check my Orchids every day. In fact, I only hold back checking ALL of them so that maybe I'll be surprised by something the next time. And I get a kick out of keeping track of their progress (using OneNote). I feel the need to tell everyone I've become obsessed with Orchids.
I visit the "What have you bought lately in 2014..." thread to make me feel better about the extreme exponential growth of my collection (there's the selfish part of addiction).
Creating my own crosses has made me nervous about what I'm doing, I feel crazy, but I am overwhelmingly excited about the concept of breeding Orchids. Having more Orchids helps my addiction because while I'm waiting for changes in one, or several, I can be fussing over many others...
100% serious now, Orchid growing/collecting has helped me find a bit of a "Zen" place. It helps sometimes when I need to take my mind off things, think about something else, just relax. Going over my Orchids, checking their moisture, their placement, their growth or lack of, admiring their blooms is really peaceful for me.
Sometimes my addiction is therapeutic...

I really think of it as less of an addiction, which has negitive connotations, than the enthusiastic following of the spiritual path of "the way of the orchid." Orchids fulfill a lot of needs that many things in life do not. In that sense, I am proud to be an addict.

Three-four months ago, I got my first orchid - I now have 80-ish (it's so bad that I've lost count ). And I also feel terrible if I don't get to water my orchids in the morning - I guess it qualifies as withdrawal symptoms?

This.....is lovely and hilarious!!!!
And, when you say ZEN....boy, do I relate! I cherish the privilege of tending all of them! That journey, that process, is interactive, and, for me, reconnects me with what life often estranges us from: The perfectly engineered journey/timetable of living beings....including ours.

Wow. One to 80 in 4 mos? You have just won the Ferrari F-40 with the Cattleya depicted on the hood! One > 80 in 4 mos wins THE F-40....not just some garden variety Ferrari!!
Pls watch for the Fed Ex guy driving the semi. And, no selling it to buy orchids! A fine, numbers-matched F-40....they made few and for only 5 years, the last one Enzo had his hand in at every level; the mint ones go for over a million. If you sell it to buy orchids....we will KNOW
Congrats!!!!

Hahaha, thanks - I always wanted a Ferrari, and one with an orchid on it is the best of both worlds!
And no selling it! I promise! I'll use it to haul orchids from the nursery to my apartment instead (which is, btw, a single-room apartment; 80 orchids in a single room apartment - picture that! )
I've learned there's a term for people like us, by the way. I believe it's "orchidiots".

On a side note, you might do better with a flatbed truck.

80 in a one-bedroom!!! Gosh, that would be a sight. Do you ever feel the need to explain to people just what they're missing?
I used to worry that I wasn't going to have room for the Orchids I was getting, that it was getting out of control and might be sloppy...then I got my little greenhouse and became more comfortable putting them outside. Amazing how needing space for our Orchids puts our minds to work. I have a double-bench arbor in my yard that is perfect for some hanging pots...I so need pot hangers...oh I can only wonder how the rest of the summer will go and gosh how things will add up come winter...as I shake my fist in envy at all you warm climate folks who never have to bring them in!!! (Although I kinda do want to bring them in when they flower so I can stare at them...but then wouldn't I risk screwing up and confusing the plant by changing the environment like that?)
