How long for AOS award to register?

I got my first AOS award in March at the Santa Barbara International Orchid Show, got my temp certificate, but have not heard anything since then from AOS. How long does it typically take for an award to go through the mill? I understand that eventually I will get a bill for the award cost, but I have not received anything yet.

It depends on the season. When there are lots of shows it takes longer for them to be processed. If it is during the slow period and the award was given at a judging center, then they get processed much faster.

Are you a member of AOS? If so, award invoices are available on line. That said, the awards are posted to the AOS within days and you should have received your invoice if your award was on a registered hybrid or known species. If you need to register the grex with the RHS or have it identified as a new species, then the next step is yours.

The best thing to do is to call the AOS awards chair, Bill Walsh 305-740-2019 and see what the status of your award is. AOS offices are in Florida but the awards chair is in the midwest, so leave a voice mail and he will get back to you.

I got an AM on one of mine last year, I dont think I received any thing from them until I sent them $35.00. I finally called them at whatever phone number is on the website (5 or 6 months later). The gal that answererd the phone took all the info and my credit card info and I received my award shortly after. I don't belong to the AOS tho so that may make a difference,...Jean

Thanks all for the kind feedback. Re seeing the plant, well, the award is for an Educational/Scientific Exhibit (EEC 90 points) for a display on imaging Oberonia flowers using z-stacking with SLR and on light microscope and also scanning electron microscope images. I think I have some images of the display that I could post.

I am an AOS member, though, my name was misspelled (wrong first name) on the temp award. I did contact AOS offices already once, and they said they had not received the paperwork from the person in charge locally. Hmm …

Maybe I'll drop them another line, with a scan of the temp award. Maybe that will help.

Re beginner, I am a beginner with awards ;-)

The show trophy is the "Parma Trophy" for best Scientific/Educational exhibit, and separate from the AOS award.
