Alright - WHO mentioned orchid show this weekend?
So the $5 orchid show totaled about $170 today. it was held at the winchester mystery house - so of course we had to do the tour....
I only brought home one, make that potentially two new plants today.
I got a Den called Green Apples - this will be a new type for me, so hopefully it grows well for me.
and well there was this hibiscus TREE in the garden that i was allowed to get a cutting of...now to see if i can root it.

Den 'Little Green Apples' is a Dendrobium in section Latouria.
This tiny bit of info can help you out tremendously if you need it.

had the kiddos with us - so we didn't stop for the wine tasting this time around.
and yes that info for the den will be very helpful. the tag just says: green elf x convolutum.
looks like the plant is from H&R nurseries out of hawaii.

Dendrobium convolutum is a species. Den 'Little Green Apples' looks a lot like Den convolutum, but it isn't.
Den 'Green Elf' is a hybrid - the heritage apparently is (Den convolutum x Den alexandrae).
There is obviously heavy genetic and breeding influence from Den convolutum.
I'd search info on both Den alexandrae and Den convolutum, both species are in section Latouria.

huh - so its basically 3/4 one species and 1/4 another species of a hybrid....
there were some others of what looked to be the same line, but slightly different - one of the plants had more yellow flowers, and the other one - was close but not quite the same flower as this one. i didn't think to look at those tags to see how they varied.

Aren't Orchid Shows always more expensive than the entrance fee. I always have to budget for a reasonable spend if I plan to go to one (as I will be in two weeks time).
Not sure how you got out of there with only one new orchid!

it would have been a different story if this was a hibiscus show. my main project right now is growing hibiscus and hybridizing them - so while i like the orchids and am having fun learning how they grow or don't grow( apparently my catt's don't like me right now) - i am working on creating some of my own hibiscus crosses. first seedling flower ever is set to open soon...
