Unhappy Orchid Envy

I’m starting to get a little envious of you indoor growers…you always seem to have something blooming…... all my Orchids outside have either finished blooming or wont be blooming for awhile…I need some color…

Hi Jo Ann I have all my orchids outside and they are blooming like crazy. Mostly Dens. but I have a couple of Phals and Onc. blooming as well. What type of orchids do you have and what are the conditions are they growing in?

Don't be sad Jo. Just increase your collection and chase those blues away

My collection is pretty young…every thing is growing nicely no complaints there… most every thing I have so far is baggy type since I’m pretty new at this I don’t want to spend a lot of money until I see that I can keep your ordinary common varieties that you can buy at the “big box” stores alive. Currently my Phalaenopsis-(Harlequin?) has still got blooms but nothing else. Here is my current list that I have so far it’s pretty much a hodge podge.

Vanda/Ascocenda-V. Doctor Anek FCC/RHT XV Lacaille( Blue)
Phalaenopsis-(Harlequin?)
Cattleya Spotted Novelty-C. (Summer X Aclandiae) ‘Carmela’
Iwanagara AppleBlossom-Iwagara Apple Blossom ‘yellow’
Brassavola Hybrid-BC.Maikai
Miltassia Hybrid-Mtssa. Shelob ‘The Weed’
Dendrobium Aggregatum var. Majus
Paph. Primulinum ‘Lemon Pie X Paph. Delanti varAlbum
Paph. Raisin Pie 'Hsinying X Supersuk 'Eureka'

One Paph. The Lemon pie cross I bought in bloom has just finished up blooming where as the Raisin pie cross I bought on discount will have to wait to rebloom.

Unfortunately it’s just having patience and giving the plants a chance to mature…

My local Home Depot has Compact Dens. for only 4.99 and they seem to never stop blooming. You buy them already in bloom and if pick one with a few more canes they will usualy spike and flower before the first spike dies off.

Hi Snow,
I’m not a real Floridian I’m currently living here on a self imposed exile. I’m originally from Ignacio Colorado. A little town so small we didn’t have a traffic light the last time I was there. So I understand all you northerner’s pain of the winter. I miss the snow… …The first year I arrived I suffered through 3 hurricanes, (What is a hurricane I said?, Isn’t it just a big rain storm along the edge of the coast?...that was a cruel joke to say the least..) At that time I lived about a 2 hours drive from the beach. I learned that year a few hard lessons about hurricanes something up north I never had to deal with. Unfortunately I cannot get to my personal pictures but here is a couple of links about the area: Ignacio, The Southern Ute Indian Tribe whose reservation covers half the town and the Durango area.

hi jo ann. lovely little town. i also buy mostly box retail store orchids, mostly from the rescue category.
really not a good way to start out in orchids.
but all have improved since i rescued them.
so i guess i have a little bit of a green thumb.
