First Rays - New Plant Pricing Strategy Male
Default First Rays - New Plant Pricing Strategy

Some of you may remember the SIMS clothing store and their "scheduled price drop" strategy. I've decided to do the same with plants, and see how it works out.
  • We will offer plants for sale at a reasonable price, and the biggest and best will be sold first. We have done this part for years...
  • Some time later, we will drop the price for the remaining plants, as indicated by the original price strike-through, and the new price displayed.
  • We may repeat that price drop more than once, until we reach a lowest, final price.
  • We will try to keep the online availability accurate, but plants are subject to prior sales or being removed from our offering without notice.
So you have to decide - is it worth buying now, at the current price, or wait for a lower price, but risk them being sold out?

Fun, huh?

Not only is it fun for the consumer, but it's very smart on your end. You keep people coming to your site and you move your stock. Awesome idea, Ray!!

I always go for the biggest and strongest plants. So I guess you'll see me sooner than later.

And the bargain plant rescuers will get a healthy discounted plant experience instead of the big box store horrors.

Can't you see it now? Go to the Firstrays site to order Kelpmax, detour to the plants section and see prices slashed on named plants!

I don't hide the fact that I primarily buy-, and resell plants, or that it is really a secondary level of my selling activity, compared to supplies and hardware. This methodology is intended to drive turnover, thereby clearing bench space and allowing me to do it more.

When I was "only" First Rays, I did a lot of plants. When the company that forced me to take an early-retirement package, hired me back full-time in September of 2012 and through 2013, having two full-time jobs was more demanding than I could handle, and the plants activity was horrible.

Now that they have been merged with a larger sister-company, and I am now a consultant for them - working from home - I am looking to rekindle that.

Ray, sorry to hear about the forced retirement. That is never good. Yuck. But I'm glad you're still an orchid guy. I'm excited to see what you get in now!

Interesting idea! Please let us know if this strategy works or not at a later date.

Well, we're gonna see how this works, as I just released some new plants, with the adjusted pricing to follow - an epidendrum, awarded cattleya clone (both currently in bud), and a paph primary (Papa Röhl = fairrieanum xsukhakulii).
