Sad news is, my grandma recently passed away. Her memorial service was today (not quite a funeral, as that term brings to mind everyone crying, and she didn't want that; she wanted us to celebrate how amazing her life was).
Happy news... well, among other things (particularly having lots of awesome friends and relatives show up), long story short, I ended up with two new Phals.
One, I had actually picked out to bring for the service. My mom wanted some sort of flowering plant to bring anyway, and her favorite grocery store had some in for Valentine's Day, and they were only $10.
The other was brought in by someone else, and (especially seeing how small it was compared to the peace lilies and assorted arrangements). After the crowd dispersed, we went to my aunt's house for a much smaller get-together, and the idea was for people to pick out which plants they wanted from there. Then it turned out nobody had room for any of them. Then I figured out a way for myself to make room for one more orchid.
(Also, as I'd quickly grown attached to the purple one, just in case someone else was going to want it, I ended up educating a few people about how to care for a Phal, because I still wanted it to stay alive.)
(just went ahead and checked purple's roots, and they're actually in MUCH better shape than I expected)
