Project 1 - An Interesting project idea...
In last night's chat, Tikva, Tindomul1of9 and I were discussing the idea of coming up with one new orchid that we'd all like to have and then each of us buying the same plant at the same time. We will have to do our wishlists, then come to the chatroom to narrow it down to just one that will work for all of us. It should be interesting to compare the progress of each plant under varying circumstances. The hardest part of this will be to find a plant that will work in all of our environments.
If anybody else would like to find out more or take part in this experiment, meet us in Chat

hmm...so it's nature/nurture, is it?
if whatever orchid happens to win my contest is one you all like, you should use it. then I could play too.
how tightly are you planning on controlling the conditions though? ie, are you all going to grow in the same media, same fertilizer, same watering schedule, etc, or are you going to just do whatever you think is best for the plant and see how things turn out?

Well, Dr Scot...you're not gonna get off that easy
If you want to join us, you'd have to be in on this decision (and that does not include posting another contest )
I'm thinking we will grow them as we normally would. It'll be interesting to discuss our processes and the progress of the plant.
Interested?

Boy I did get into the chat late last nite - missed a lot!
I would love to get in on this action, availability not so easy here in Canada for US stuff and $$$ for documents.
Den. unicum is one of my favorites.

There is one I was DYING to get from Canada but now I've forgotten. It's the only place I saw it online and I was so jealous because I just won't spend all that extra on papers etc....
It's too bad private people can't send their friends plants!!!!

Tin, that one is cute, my it's not my favorite and Tik REALLY doesn't like it...so the search continues
We have some time to work on this, so come up with a few others that you would like and we can all take a look

Tik, I know what you are suggesting....and I know you are trying so hard......but stop it. My Paph. sanderianum seedlings aren't even out of the flask yet!
The paper work for Canada to US plant purchases is very reasonable, try moving plants the other way. See here....

I wasn't begging for plants, but not because I don't want to. I just have too much pride lol!
I was ACTUALLY being selfless. It's quite out of character for me, but I was thinking it would be nice if private people like us could just send eachother plants. I swap lotions with friends in Canada. I think it's unfair I can't send them plants too! I was wishing I could send you plants that you wanted. That's all :c)
And I want this one that I could only find at a nursery in Canada Ponerorchis graminifolia. And DARN!! I just looked at it again and I WANT it!!!! :c)
I'll take a seedling if you want me to tho ;c) hehe
