Got the 6 for $15.00 so I didn't think that was too bad. |
Ok, admit it.....what have you bought lately 2014 edition!!
It never fails, the only way I will leave my orchid society's meeting WITHOUT buying an orchid is to not attend at all! I even left my checkbook at home. But noooooooo! Our guest speaker accepts PayPal. So I ended up with four new plants NOT Neofinetia. He had a lot of Paphiopedelium and Phragmipedium--which is my society's favorite plant, fortunately I cannot grow these plants satisfactorily, so I passed on those. But those lady slippers were lovely, he had a couple of beautiful Phragmipedium bessea that were just starting to bloom for $25.00.
1 Dendrobium Microchip--beautiful yellow white flowers and fragrant too. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5503/1...17128f46_b.jpg Dendrobium Microchip by MattWoelfsen, on Flickr D. And then there are the unexpected finds … Vorfreude ist die schönste Freude [Anticipation is the greatest joy]. Only three more weeks! Fortunately, some speaking engagements will off-set some of the expenses. |
I got a blooming (its a noid cuz it doesn't have a tag but on the aide of the pot it came on it says DARK KNIGHT is big black letters) phalaenopsis and a Maxillaria tenuifolia cuz I wanted something fregrent.
I got them all fairly cheap and I am saving the rest of my money for either a flask or this spring when my area gets new stock in at the nurseries. |
Some from Andy's Orchids, some from the Ft. Lauderdale show. I want to go to the Boca show too, but I've run out of room! UNLESS I can find an Angraecum eichlerianum or cultriforme.
Jumellea densifoliata Angraecum calceolus Angraecum didieri Angraecum sesquipedale Dendrobium limpidum Cattleya luteola 4n Brassavola cucullata Dendrophylax lindenii Dendrophylax sallei Sobennikoffia robusta Cattleya Green Emerald Queen Tolumnia Golden Sunset x Tolumnia Elfin Gem Tolumnia NOid |

I needed to pick up juice at my local Safeway. Totally not thinking about orchids and came upon their display of about 3O big beautiful pansy orchids for $16.00 each. I snapped up this one and a purple one with the buds just opening. For the price of cut flowers, I'll take a chance,

Sharry, that flower shape reminds me of my Milt. 'Voluptous'. I take it there wasn't a tag in the pot.
|
Tabbyblack: No name tag but the grower tag is Matsui Nursery from Salinas. Do you grow these in Arizona? How do you keep it humid enough?
|
I need more orchids! I need more space! :)
