Was browsing eBay and came across an amazing looking plant for under $6 sooooo, I bought it and added another one from the same seller. They are:

Miltassia Shelob 'Tolkien'
Dendrobium Lorrie Mortimer

I've said it before but I kind of have to stop now...

There are a couple that I want to try and get. Looking for more fragrant ones and Sharry Baby seems a good place to start. Maybe just 1 more....

I love Sharry Baby, you need one. I hope mine reblooms soon. I can't wait for the house to smell of chocolate!

Maybe next Orchid show I can get to. With the 2 new ones I ordered I am up to 12. I want to get a handle on caring for them all before I go too crazy. Maybe for now my Sederia Japonica will have to do for fragrance.

Well, you won't believe this, but I spent the week with a friend who's recovering from back surgery as well as being an orchidaholic and she sent me home with two more orchids.....So, I now have a small Cattleya gaskelliana and a blooming size Onc. Sharry Baby....

lotis146--All I've got on the tag is Zygo Rhein, but I can try to hunt up the seller for more info if you'd like. The plant has just gone out of bloom and been repotted, so I'll have to wait and see how I do with it. I gather that some Zygo species grow as roadside weeds in Brazil (?). Definite hyacinth fragrance during the day. Mine is in a south window receiving dappled light (so direct light but with shade from the tree in front of the house and the plants closer to the glass) and is kept a bit moister than my catts/encs--more like my oncs....

The Zuyl Melissa Brianne is blooming size, but it was frosted in shipment so I picked it up for a reduced price. No new growth yet, but we'll see how it goes. The pics I've seen of it have been gorgeous, and I hope to see it in bloom before the summer is out.

Happy orchid buying to you all!

Catherine

No worries on getting more info about your Zygo, I was just curious. The seller sent mine out the very next day I bought it (I paid late that night) however the post office has been screwing around because it was expected between 2-4th and it still hasn't arrived. :( I think I'm driving my BF crazy talking about how it's not here (it's just another plant to him :blushing:). But it's supposed to be in bud so hopefully that'll still be the case and in a month maybe I'll have pics to share with you. It's been cold at night here lately so I hope nothing happened to it.

Oh I hope you Vuyls. blooms for you before Fall, that would be awesome!

Thanks for sharing.

Yeah!! May I ask where you get Cypripedium? I would love to get some that will grow outdoors as I believe Cypripediums are what grow in the Midwest.

Good luck! I've been told to check out Sharry Baby too and was going to get one but then I wound up accidentally (:blushing:) buying 4, well the one Zygo was very intentional and okay so is the Tolumnia lucayana whose auction is oh ending tonight. ;)

Every time I hear someone say Sharry Baby makes the house smell like chocolate I'm two seconds away from jumping online and ordering one! Errrr...but I really am trying to tell myself to wait till I go Hausermann's. We'll see what happens...mwa-ah-ah...

It's difficult I've found even this early on in the hobby, to not want to buy and buy. I didn't want to buy until I figured out whether or not I had managed to save those that I had. Sure enough they're all showing new growth of one form or another so that gave me the go ahead. Now the trick for me is learning the different species (for me that's Wils., Tolumnia, Zygo. & Paph.). It almost seems like you have to scratch your itch and then maybe be satisfied for a while. At least I'm hoping that. One Tolumnia I have coming is a micro-mini!

Cheers everybody!:D

Micro-mini Tolumnia?? I really like the Tolumnias and am looking forward to seeing a micro-mini one.

I love Shelob! Such a nice orchid.

And you really really should get sharry baby.

Lotis146--So sorry about the delay on your Zygo, hope it comes soon! Get the Sharry Baby--you'll never regret it. Easy growing vigorous plant and a reliable bloomer. Also, my Vuyl. Melissa Brianne is sending up new growth, so looks like it's going to make it and flower (I hope) by summer's end.

Thanks, I went ahead an filed a case with USPS, I know it's not the seller's fault, they shipped pretty quickly. In the meantime my Tolumnia Buck Hollow shipped Saturday from Florida and made it to Michigan and will be delivered today...the Zygo has been a week from Texas, huh...

Oh I can't wait to see Melissa Brianne! Nice work getting it to grow. I went ahead an took it as an omen that the grower never called me back about this. In the meantime I've picked up plenty online and have I said I plan on going to Hausermann's "one day"?

Aw gee, you're trouble!
Can't blame you, while checking my tracking and status of a just ended auction (6 day duration) I came across a marvelous Paph. Hawaiian Illusion in spike! My my this plant is crazy cool! You think I just said, "Oh man, that is so cool?" and just admired it? No...doh...no, no, no I had to have it...so now including plants in transport...15 Orchids... BF will soon take notice that the numbers are multiplying quickly, I'm going to have to be more stealth and stop for a while:evil:

...any Orchid Addicts Anonymous sponsors available?

Leafmite 04-07-2014 02:17 PM

Ooh, I am! The cure for this orchid craze is to collect them all! :)
Nice choices of minis! :)
