I need friends like yours! Only one of my friends grows a single, solitary phal. I want people to give me gift orchids... that would be cool! :D

I'm getting that "itch" again. What's next on my list.....hmmmmmm.....

reply to cathering on page...9...?
Thought this would quote her from page 8 or 9 (sorry!)
Hellow there Catherine! Not sure if you're still following this thread but I'm curious about your Zygo. Rhein. I just ordered 'Moonlight' and expect to get in bud tomorrow or Friday. Is this the same hybrid as yours? Any tips on growing? I so want to be surprised if mine is fragrant but gosh I got excited when you said Hyacinth fragrance; I LOVE THOSE! Also, I saw Zuyl. Melissa Brianne 'Shady Lady' online but they said they didn't think they had it anymore, haven't heard anymore from them. Was this a worthy buy? I wasn't going to pursue it further but now that you mention it... Thanks! would love to see some pics of yours! ---------- Post added at 02:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:53 AM ---------- After this reply, I'm going to create a new thread/question. This year - as a "newbie" - I've bought a NoID Phal. (Later read a number and 'Pink Pirate' on the plastic pot); two NoID rescue Phals. Paph. 'Pink Fred' in bud (currently one bloom open, second about to, 3rd on the way, very very small 4th) Recently (thus my reason for posting here), I made my first "real" purchases on ebay (embarrassingly sorta accidental). They are as follows: Zygopetalum Rhein Moonlight (in spike/bud) Wilsonara Pacific Passage "Peach Cobbler" hybrid (spike) Tolumnia (equitant) Buck Hollow seedling (buds) I may wind up getting Tolumnia lucayana var. pink Gosh and I felt so guilty getting all these almost one after the other, especially since I WILL be going to Hausermann's sooner than later. BUT this list makes me feel...better...and WOW, a bit overwhelmed. So look for my thread asking how you do it...COMING SOON. Cheers to everyone and their Orchids! Lotis |
I just received my shipment of orchids. I ordered more than I had thought. :)
1) Sedirea Japonica 2) & 3) Dyakia hendersoniana (2) 4) Phalaenopsis schilleriana dark 5) phal schill v. purpurea 6) phal bellina 7) Zygo mackayi 8) Anguloa clowesii (probably insane to buy this but I have always wanted one!) 9) Rhy gigantea (red) (same insanity/reason as the Anguloa) 10) Pot Burana Beauty |
Oh! A Sedirea japonica! I absolutely love mine. The flowers have such a great citrus fragrance!
Nice haul!! |
Thanks!
I am on a roll, here.... |
Well, you won't believe this, but I spent the week with a friend who's recovering from back surgery as well as being an orchidaholic and she sent me home with two more orchids.....So, I now have a small Cattleya gaskelliana and a blooming size Onc. Sharry Baby....
lotis146--All I've got on the tag is Zygo Rhein, but I can try to hunt up the seller for more info if you'd like. The plant has just gone out of bloom and been repotted, so I'll have to wait and see how I do with it. I gather that some Zygo species grow as roadside weeds in Brazil (?). Definite hyacinth fragrance during the day. Mine is in a south window receiving dappled light (so direct light but with shade from the tree in front of the house and the plants closer to the glass) and is kept a bit moister than my catts/encs--more like my oncs.... The Zuyl Melissa Brianne is blooming size, but it was frosted in shipment so I picked it up for a reduced price. No new growth yet, but we'll see how it goes. The pics I've seen of it have been gorgeous, and I hope to see it in bloom before the summer is out. Happy orchid buying to you all! Catherine |
Cattleya gaskelliana is a really great one! I just bought a second one (from the same flask but different). I just love the fragrance and flower. :)
