Here are the 5 Cymbidium I bought this month.
2 Sinense and 1 Ensifplium from Ten Shin Gardens. 1 Goeringii and 1 Lianpan from Ebay. Attachment 96733 |
Nice! I've been thinKing about delving into that side of cymbidiums.
Everything is ok! My orchids came today. Beautifully packaged. The ones missing from my online order were sent. I'm extremely pleased. They are all so tiny! I knew they would be but still. What really shocked me was the punctata. It's smaller than my pinky nail. Time to fill that lantern! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/22/7u5utu9a.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/22/a4ysere6.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/22/pa3ajevu.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/22/hu4y5asa.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/22/yvaneves.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/22/quvese5u.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/22/a7ubyze5.jpg Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk |
After taking a break for 6 months from buying a new orchid, I went a bit nuts and got 4 more over the last three weeks.
Ascf. Moonlight Firefly ( Ascf. Twinkle x Neof. falcata 'White Flamingo' AM/AOS). Bought this one from First Rays; very nice plant with one mature fan and 3 baby fans, can't wait for this one to spike. Cattlianthe Caribbean 'Orange Bowl' HCC/AOS. Another plant from First Rays, a real beauty with 4 fat already-flowered bulbs and some smaller older bulbs. One of the bulbs just started putting out two new leads, and another bulb is starting to grow a new lead too. Phal. violacea (Phal. violacea magenta 'KS-5' x Phal. violacea magenta 'KS-1'). Bought this one from Carter & Holmes. Very nice, healthy plant. An immature plant, 1-2 years away from blooming. Came with new roots growing and a new leaf emerging. Phal. corningiana (Phal. corningiana 'Bountiful' x Phal. corningiana 'Newberry'). Another one from Carter & Holmes. Another healthy, beautiful little orchid, 1-2 years away from blooming. Also came with new roots growing and a new leaf emerging. |

Small local orchid show and I ended up buying Dendrobium kingianum and Dendrobium Aussie's Chip...pretty sure it is now considered a Micro Chip but since they had both from the same grower and they did look different I'll stick with the name on the tag.
Hmm...maybe it really is Aussie's Chip since that hybrid is still possible just not with the pygmy version if my understanding is correct. Who knows? Haha. Need to get some pictures taken. |
I went back and they had Miltassia (Bratonia) Charles M. Fitch 'Izumi' AM/AOS...I've been wanting this for a while but the shipping has been almost as much as the plant when I've found it, so this was the perfect opportunity to snag one. Not in bloom, but a nice 3 psuedobulb division with 1 new growth already started.
Also, I feel like people have bought orchids since Friday and haven't fessed up...two purchase posts back-to-back on this thread! Oh dear. |
this is from my last visit to the united states. all plants are now in the Mexico, and planted. the bulbophylum is courtesy of ISURUS (many thanks Steve!!!).

Went to an orchid auction on Saturday at the Reynolda Gardens Greenhouse. Really cool place to go if you're ever in Winston-Salem, NC... over 100 years old and quite a collection of interesting plants. Also has a nice manicured garden and is obviously close to the Reynolda House Museum of American Art. Both now owned and operated by my alma mater Wake Forest University (GO Deacs!).
On to the orchids... The first 3 I won during the bidding (all for reasonable prices). The phal I purchased from the $10 table that was set up at the auction. All the proceeds go to further the greenhouse collection of orchids. OK, I'll admit it, I'm a repeat offender..... Here's my haul from the Columbus Ohio Orchid Society show:
1 flask Oda Smantha Gettie 'Vision' x Odm. Michael Nemman 'Mt. Vernon'--tons of seedlings and ready to deflask to compots... Onc. cheirophorum Epy. Serena O'Neill (Epi. Mabel Kanda x E. cordigera)--should be fragrant purple flowers Enc. Butch Luce (Enc. alata x cordigera) Rhyncholaelia digbyana (seedling) Leptotes bicolor (in bud) Siderea japonica (starting to spike) 5 asst Neofinetia (New World Orchids was there and WOW do they have nice Neos!) I knew I was in trouble when I saw the Visa/Mastercard signs at the vendor booths (grin).... For those who might be wondering, the show continues tomorrow at Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio. Pretty incredible displays (check out the Cattleya schroederae in the Greater Cinci display), and a nice selection of sale orchids....Be sure to buy lots and post here so I don't feel as guilty about my purchases....
