December status (December and January should be great months for blossoms)
Aerangis citrata – 2 new spikes are forming. The existing spike is lengthening, but still no obvious bud swelling. This spike was approx 3” long when I acquired this plant from Andy’s, but now is more than 10” long!
Aerangis fastuosa – I am watching what appears to be a new growth or a flower spike develop.
Aerangis hyaloids – many spikes (about 8) have formed and are lengthening. They look alot like Haraella spikes.
Aerangis luteo-alba (project plant) – two well-formed spikes should bloom this month. New roots and a new growth have appeared.
Angraecum monticola – new spike maturing well and older roots are continuing growth.
Angraecum didieri – two new growth shoots and several new roots. No signs of blooming yet. I moved it closer to 55 watt CF bulb to see if higher light will do the trick.
Angraecum florulentum – new growth shoot is growing well.
Beallara Peggy Ruth Carpenter – I have lost count of how many spikes she has had this year. A new spike is developing and should blossom this month.
Cattleya intermedia – the smaller plant is sending out lots of new roots and another new growth. The taller of the two plants might be sending a new growth, but roots are just OK.
Cischweinfia sheehanae – In full blossom. Over a dozen spikes (some poorly formed) are blooming. Nice fragrance.
Dendrobium anosmum is in dormancy after dropping all leaves.
Epidendrum ellipticum is in bloom once again on 3 new spikes. I planted the keiki and it is doing very well.
Haraella odorata is in bloom (isn’t it always?).
Laelia briegeri has a new growth shoot developing.
Maxillaria variabilis has 9 new growths developing from 7 older growths (pseudobulbs.) This means more than a doubling of plant size. Many of my ‘chids are doing this, no doubt due to the new fertilizer regime I went to this past year.
Paph fairrieanum is still in bloom and maturing 2 new growths. The other two Paphs (see my plant list) are maturing at least 2 new growths each. There are also even newer growths started on each one.
The White Phalenopsis NOID is maturing its flower spike and sending out fat new roots.
Potinara Titan’s Fire ‘Paradise’ is sending out its second new growth, after flowering this last spring. Lots of new roots as well.
One of my
Sedira japonica (the mounted one) has a flower spike that is maturing. May bloom this month (first time for me.)
Sophronitis cernua had 4 new growths this season. They are maturing and roots are emerging. Not sure it is getting enough light to cause blooms, though.
Tolumnia Jairak Rainbow ‘Pink’ is starting to send up a flower spike from the fan it developed this summer.
Anoectochilus chapaense (a Jewell Orchid) is in spike and slowly presenting the white buds. Hope these mature soon. The other Jewell Orchids are just growing new growths.
