Paph violascens! Good growing. It's not an easy species. Is this the first bloom, or have you had it for a while?

I have had the violacens for three years. It has two growths and I'll cut the flower off now. I never let it keep it's bloom for very long... I repot it every 4 months, in coarse perlite and sphagnum with a layer of styrofoam peanuts on the bottom. I find it's roots like to be shallow in the pot.

Some others that are in bloom, or bud... Paph. javanicum, and my monster niveum. I never repot (just pot on into bigger pot)my niveum it is happy in diatomous media. I have had the niveum for 8 years, and it blooms two or more times a year.

Thank you for the tips, Andre. Repotting every 4 months! Could you tell me why? I would think that even sphag doesn't deteriorate that quick, does it? Or are you trying to prevent any salt accumulation? I got a tiny seedling of this species this summer, which is growing so far.

Impressive niveum. For P. niveum, are you using pure diatomaceous? Dr. Tanaka was also experimenting with no repotting for Brachy. Mine has been struggling.

I am repotting so frequently because the moss gets slimy, and I don't want salt accumulation. I was worried about root issues , so I started an experiment, and I guess the plant is happy with frequent potting. It works for my growing environment. I also have other South Pacific species that I have that I repot often, but their roots seem to dig deeper in the medium, so I don't use the styrofoam.

The lowii has a nice petal stance. Mine usually twist and the spoon always winds up facing backwards.
