This is what I have going on now.



Currently, this is all sitting on top of a book shelf in my office. I'm using a CFL bulb to supplement sunlight in this window, because, as you can see, it's already dark here and it's 4 pm.

I have another paph and my oncidium rosy sunset to move in still, but I won't move them in for a while yet. My mounted plants are on the other side of the room

I'm thinking that a shelf with lights on it might be the way to go here.

Definitely a shelf (or 2 or 3) with lights--some of the T-5 strip lights take up very little space and put out tons of light.

Depending on the view out the window you could even put a baker's rack in front of it with strip lights over each shelf....

Just tossing out some ideas--I'm sure there will be plenty more (grin).

If it looks as if there is some open space, remember, all those little trees (and the aerides!) will grow larger....

I am the same way. I must keep things tidy or my husband would not be happy! But there are so many plants I would like to have and not enough room. It is very addictive and hard not to go overboard.

NYMan- You throw some away? I was thinking about tossing 2 to make room for some plants I want, but feel bad tossing them, but don't know anyone that wants Noids, they also haven't flowered for me and I don't think I would miss them.

RandomGemini is that all the plants you have, it's not many I have about 30 and have been growing them for 2 years but won't go much over that b/c of space constraints.

I'm lucky, then, as my husband doesn't even notice the plants unless I bob one up and down in front of him to show him the blooms!

I find that with all the plants together like that it creates a micro climate with RH a bit higher than in the rest of the house. There are currently 38 plants on the rack, so a about 10 or so less than in picture 1, but it will hold up to 95-100 depending of course on the size (don't ask me how I know this!). The lighting was easy to install. I just used plastic coated long twisty ties to attach them to the bottoms of the shelves. Two light strips can be daisy chained together as it shows in picture 2. I have the lights on a timer so I don't have to worry about turning them off and on. I also use humidity/drip trays under the plants to keep the floor dry. Mounted plants can be hung from the shelving as you can see in picture 1. Once I got everything set up and plants on the shelves I couldn't believe how fast everything took off growth wise. Those T5HO bulbs rock!

I agree that having plants together does create a nice micro-climate. Your set up looks very nice, quiltergal!
