Good taste in orchids!
I just wanted to share this story with some fellow orchid lovers; I figured if there were people who would appreciate this story it would be you all!
I was watering my vanda compots this morning and my two year old was helping. She pointed and said, "orchids". I told her she was right. Then she promptly replied, "mine" and pointed to the compot of Vanda javierae (of course my most expensive seedlings). I asked her which one was hers, I thought she may have taken a liking to one particular plant in the compot. She looked irritated by me and responded, "the green ones"!! Lol!
I had to do some hard negotiating to only release two plants in that compot (one for her and one for her sister). Somehow her collection gets bigger and mine get smaller! She "writes" her name on the orchids she likes from my collection, closing the deal. Don't you wish we could do that! Imagine going to a greenhouse, writing your name on a plant and poof, it's yours. Ahhh, to be two!

Wonderful that she's so interested. You'll have to cultivate that interest along with your orchids.

I agree! She already has her own collection and spray bottle to water them. Her first orchids are much nicer then mine were and I got my first orchids when I had a good job! Lol!
My one year old is starting to show interest too, so it should be very fun (and slightly costly, but that's okay with me)!  |

I agree. We have lots of different orchids, but she is definitely mine, as she has a soft spot for our vandas! |

how cool that your kids are taking interest in what you love....they can sense it that those 'green things' are important to you....they protect and care for it just as they will protect and care for you when they grow up....

Thanks for your kind words, Bud. I think it's cool that they are taking an interest too! It would be awesome if this is a hobby that they continue to love, time will tell. |
