Your story made me smile!!!
My "kids" are all in their 20s now, but my one son is home again as he looks for work. He gave me one of my first orchids, which is now two. Both are blooming beautifully right now and we take time to admire and enjoy them each day. The last week he has been bugging me to get a vanilla orchid, but I don't think that I have the right culture for it.
Enjoy your children, Nikkik! They grow up too fast!!!!

I'm happy my story made you smile.
What a great son buying you orchids! It's very nice that he is able to enjoy orchids with you.
And I agree that they grow up too fast! I can't believe how quickly time has gone by after having my kids. I do cherish every moment with them.

Very cute! My youngest always has loved the berries and fruit trees. None of my kids have interest in the orchids, though. The only way I get them to help at our OS show is by offering to take them to the big mall nearby.
Kids do really grow up fast. I have two in college, now, and one is in High School. The plan is for the orchids to keep me entertained when the last one goes off to college.

Thank you! I was never interested in plants growing up, even though my mom had a ton. I bought one noid while grocery shopping and it was all downhill from there! So who knows, maybe one or all of your kids might take an interest later on. When I was a teen, I lived for clothes, shoes and makeup, now I'd rather buy an orchid! Lol!
I think it's great that you have a fulfilling hobby once your kids are all in college. I decided to keep my orchid hobby even while my kids are young because I stopped working to raise them, but I need to be something other then a mom, wife and homemaker. Orchid growing makes me think and troubleshoot scientific problems, I get to do research plants and this hobby allows me to interact with smart and interesting people. Orchid growing keeps me sane!

My three year old is the same way. Whenever he sees me watering them he always wants to "help wif da flowies". He helps me put them back on their shelves, and likes to mist them.
Sometimes he loves them too much though, like when he snapped off a new growth on my vanilla. But they've got to learn somehow right?
Aren't little helpers great?

That's so awesome your son likes to help! My daughters can be overly helpful too, especially when trying to water my orchids on cool nights! I end up going out there with a towel to dry the leaves off! Lol!

That's so wonderful that your daughter has an interest in your orchids!! ...it would be really nice to write your name on a tag, and BAM that's your orchid like magic! ...I wonder if I could try that when I go visit an orchid nursery!
If she continues to be interested, that is a great way to stay close to her as a kind of mother-daughter friendship, when she gets older!
