Going to join my local orchid society NewOrleansOrchidSociety.org
Yep! It's about that time! I'm going to join my local orchid society in New Orleans, the New Orleans Orchid Society! Their website is NewOrleansOrchidSociety.org if anyone wants to check them out. I'm not sure if I'm ready for the "big dogs" yet like the American Orchid Society as I'm sure a few of the members here may be a part of. Perhaps by the end of the year or New Year's I'll join the AOS. For now I'll keep it local, learn some things from the people in my city (but also my fellow Orchid Board members ^_^), attend some meetings and hopefully with time advance to other orchids such as the "lady slipper" I just love those! But I can't find them here in the Big Easy!!! Thanks for taking the time to read this you guys! Catch ya later gators! (We grow em BIG here in Louisiana!!! LOL)

I'd love to meet some people who have a love for orchids like myself (trust me when I say where I live the only things people seem to love is guns). Hopefully, at one of the meetings someone will bring a "lady slipper" they would like to sell. Thanks for your input nikkik <(^_^)>
I just noticed you're from Detroit Nikki...oh dear...New Orleans and Detroit...lol

Nice I just joined a society after 10 years growing. I joined pretty much to show off my plants since none of my friends care. I'm just bummed we only meet once a month, and it looks like most of my blooms will be past their prime by then

I think that's a good move. Your best source of information is orchid growers in your own area.

Awesome! I grow lots of lady slippers, many different types. If you have questions ask us in the cypripedium alliance section, the Paphiopedilum part or the other part. eBay can be a good source for easy to grow, inexpensive orchids. For slippers, look under "paphiopedilum" or "maudiae paph".

Forgot to add: Most lady slippers are as easy to grow as a phalaenopsis.

I will do that. I must add a Lady Slipper or Paphiopedilum to my collection as soon as possible. Joseline Hernandez was nearly dead Mal. I had to repot her. She lost leaves and was wrinkling on me. Her roots were super BLACK and I peeled them to the thin roots and replanted her in bark. The sphagnum moss retained too much moisture, she was the 3rd orchid I bought, and she smelled like rusty water! I hope she recovers Mal
