Remember my vandas in trees; they're not anymore!
So I just recently posted a picture of my vandas in trees and the pulley system my husband created for me. We had really high winds and thunderstorms today. I was playing with my girls in their toy room and the power went out. I had the blinds closed because it was so sunny, when the power went out, naturally, I opened the blinds and the sky was pretty dark. The wind picked up very quickly and I was hoping that my orchids wouldn't come flying off of their ropes. I didn't have to think about it for long because a neighboring tree in my yard with some of my other orchids fell onto my pulley system and tree burying my orchids under branches and limbs.
My Vandopsis lissochiloides is in rough shape, I recently acquired it, it was very established in its basket and now it's not in a basket and has broken roots and leaves. We can't find my Vanda Angelica Vale, but we have found pieces of its ceramic pot. My husband was able to find the Vanda merrillii that I searched so hard for, it has a couple of superficial issues, leaves bent and such, but otherwise looks fine. My huge Vanda Roberts Delight is in rough shape. And the list goes on.
I am grateful that my family, pets and house are all safe and unscathed, but I am disappointed about my orchids and all the work that was put into the pulley system that is now gone. I was waiting for my spikes and now I'll be nursing and trying to establish these plants. Oh well that's the way the wind blows (literally).
