Default Blue phalaenopsis- what's your take on it?

So I was just curious to know how other people on this board felt about the blue phals that I have been seeing at my local grocery stores? I wonder if many people realize that if the dye isn't still in the orchids system and they intend to keep it, the color will not be blue, but the color it genetically should be?

When I first saw the bule ones, I thought they were creepy. The blue was so fake.

Now I like it, especially in the summer, having a deep blue flowers in the house really change the mood.

I have bought blue and purple.

The problem for me is, like anything else, finding a good one. Many of them are not evenly dyed and ugly.

I also like the blue candy strip decorative pots they usually come in.

I don't like them. They are too fake looking for me and after the first blooming you just end up with a white standard Phal. I have seen dyed purple and green ones too at my local grocery store. Actually I have seen at least two people ask on here about their blue Phal blooming white and not knowing it was dyed. I think a lot of people buy them not knowing they are dyed.

I've not seen them in person. Form pics I don't like them because I know they are not a real colour, but not sure whether if I saw them in person I would like it or not.

I wish they were sold with labelling that makes clear they are not a permanent blue colour. I don't like thinking that people may be disappointed if they try and keep it and flower it again.

The tag does say it is dyed and the subsequent bloom will be white.

I recently saw someone in Japan has genetically engineered actually blue phals rather than dyed ones.

Not always. Some growers print on the tag they are dyed but I have seen a lot where I live that don't. I think a lot of people who are buying their first orchid or just buy it because they want something to decorate their house with don't look at the tag right away too. People who buy them for gifts probably don't look all the time either. A lot of people go on looks. It surprises me that so many people don't read things like tags, labels, and directions! I'm the type of person that always reads directions and labels.

I really don't like genetically altered things. I prefer natures creations! That is why I prefer species orchids too. I do like hybrids but I just appreciate and like the look of a natural orchid better. That's why I don't like the dyed Phals. I would never buy one. If I got one as a gift I would keep it but I would like it better when it blooms white.

The pictured phals look violet than blue to me. The dyed blue phals are really true blue, although it is temporary.

I also read lables on plants. I actually read lables of anything. washing instructions on clothes, nutrition facts and anything I buy.

Well, hybrids can also occur in nature.
I am not into species but without particular reasons.
One issue I have is that people taking wild plants from the nature. I understand many are grown in captivation now but there are still "poachers" out there. why? because there is demand. very sad.

I'm all about hybrids. I find hybrids far more prettier in general and so many different varieties to choose from.
