They're not my cup of tea but they've obviously got a market. They're made to be disposable. If you're happy for the next lot of flowers to be white, keep it. If you want more blue flowers, throw out the old plant and buy a new one. So long as they're labelled as being dyed I don't have a problem with them.

I agree that they're hideous, but people seem to like these vivid, fake colours. Blue-dyed agates are very popular, too - and they're just as fake.

well, white NOID or any NOID is at least $40 here in NYC. $19 is nothing.

I can see the appeal to some people, especially those who don't really collect or buy Orchids often. I would think most experienced orchid keepers would be be less inclined to join the craze.
These caught my eye a few weeks, back and I'm glad there is an active thread to add my two cents!
(There was no indication they were dyed signage wise, but the leaves looked messy)

What's not to love?
I love them. cool color!
It is just a personal taste. Everyone is different.
I have hundreds of orchids. I still love blue dyed phals.

Ive just purchased a Phal today (im very much a beginner when it comes to Orchids!) and i posted a picture on here a couple of hours ago because i was so impressed with the colour - only to find out it has been dyed!
Dont get me wrong it doesnt take away from the beauty but I am disappointed that when it reblooms (if i can get it to that is!) it wont be blue! There should definitely be a note on the pot somewhere to say its been dyed so that amatuers like me dont get fooled!

I just wanted to say... The orchids they typically dye have these big saucer shaped blooms on them. The flowers are huge and when they bloom, they are gorgeous, even though they are white. Here's my Phal. Sogo Yukidian v3. The flowers I have seen dyed, look a lot like this as far as the shape.
As long as the dye process doesn't kill the plant for the newbie grower, I see no harm in it.

The problem is that they don't say that they are dyed (well they don't where I live) I have seen so many post about people that buy these thinking they are blue and then are disappointed that they are white.
I personally don't care what they do with them, dye them don't dye them I don't care I am not the one buying them whoever is buying them should be happy with them the problem is that a lot are not.

I was amused to see an ad for one of these from 1800flowers.com appear as a banner ad here on OB last night (orchid board doesn't get to choose the ads that appear) and selling for 59.99.
Their description:
--quote--
EXCLUSIVE Rare and exotic, this graceful blue Phalaenopsis orchid is as easy to enjoy as it is hard to pronounce. Also known as the "moth orchid" because its blooms resemble graceful moths in flight, this unique beauty, with special blue enhanced bloom color, arrives in an elegant decorative planter.
Phalaenopsis (fah-lay-NOP-sis) orchid arrives fresh and beautiful, budding and ready to display exquisite blooms with blue enhanced color
When the plant re-blooms in the future, the orchid blooms will be white
Set in a striking decorative planter
Measures overall approximately 16"H
--end quote--
Enhanced, huh. And am I the only one who has never heard Phalaenopsis pronounced as per their phonetic pronunciation above?
