Default Shopping of the day! :)

I really didn't have any intention to buy orchids when I walked into grocery stores today, but I ended up coming home with three beauties.

Dark red wine colored phal hybrid from the whole foods. It was 30% off and double spike! Flowers are interesting, some straight & neat and some looking crumbled. All have white rim and lips are spotted.
They also had vandas (large blue, purple, white and not so large orange which was fragrant). I've never seen vandas at this store. I was very tempted but I had to put my urge down. It was rather pricy as well.

Now the next two came from TJ.
Yellow (pictures do not show the true color, more darker yellow with orange hue to it) phal hybrid.
Flower quality is rather crappy, lots of indentation and funny little damage here and there, but I was just attracted to the color and the white pot. still the same usually low price.

Dendrobium Spring Dream "Kumiko"
One tall cane loaded with flowers and three new shoots of differing sizes. This plant looks very healthy!
I'm anticipating sweet fragrance tomorrow morning!
This one also came with a nice decorative pot.

Beautiful! I am new to growing orchids and have purchased four out of the five from the clearance plants at Lowes. The first one ($5) had new spikes, bloomed, and I was hooked! I came home with my fifth one today. I love the white pot that your orchid came in...is it just decorative or is the plant potted in it? Hope I can keep my orchids alive, healthy, and blooming. Look forward to learning more and advice from experienced growers.

Thank you!

You will find your collection growing at an alarming rate if you don't watch out. lol

The stores here do not have clearance. Thank god! I would have had real problem if they did. lol

The white pot (made in Germany) is a decorative pot with no drainage hole. The plant is planted in bark in clear plastic container.

Make sure you do not water too often. Many people kill plants (orchids) by overwatering. If the potting material feels wet or too moist, then wait until quite dry before watering again.

Place your plants ( I assume you have phalaenopsis??) in a very bright location but not direct sun.

These are the very basic but probably the most important.

You get these right and your plants will grow and flower for you every year.

I have a soft spot for the dark, rich colors. These are BEAUTIES indeed! Good catch!

So pretty, especially the dark one. I try to look away when I walk into a grocery store and see orchids on display. And yet a beautiful double-spiked phal with powder pink segments and white lobes & lip jumped right into my cart last week. Sigh.

That dark phal is absolutely stunning! I love the color and the pattern on the lip!
