I don't think I've ever seen masdies at my TJ, but then someone in Texas said their TJ carries paphs, which is another genus that mine doesn't carry.
Anyway, my opinion about orchids sold at TJ is shop with care. Orchids sold at TJ are cheap and meant to be enjoyed for flowers and tossed (keeping them for long term is customers' option) , so I don't complain much about quality. I have other places where I can pay more but buy more quality plants.
I go to TJ often to pick up grocery, and every time I am there, I walk by the orchid sections to see if there are anything that I like. If I do find something that I like, I examine very closely as most of the plants I see at TJ are in terrible conditions (at least to my standard) spotted leaves, rotten or dried up plants, beat up or/and torn and/or color break flowers, or low flower counts....
I think standard phals are the worst. I have never seen a single phal at TJ that I felt like buying. I do find some nice minis every now and then though.
When I do find something in good conditions like the ones I buy, I bring them home.
I have Oncidium Heaven Scent and Tahoma Glacier from TJ, and so far they both have been very happy healthy plants at my place. My Tohoma Glacier is sending up two big spikes with branching and throwing new shoots. Heaven Scent rebloomed in the winter and now sending up three new shoots. I am so excited!!!
