Great post rosemadder! Having finally seen a Fdk After Dark 'SVO Black Pearl' FCC up close and personal in full bloom on multiple spikes at the Philly Flower Show this year, I'll just add that if it isn't quite exactly black, it is, as the old heads say, close enough for rock 'n roll.

Oooh, you're a digital artist? Do you have a gallery or something so I can check your art? I'm a dabbler at digital art myself (or rather, I'm trying to learn when I'm not feeling too depressed or tired), but I'm not good at it or at drawing considering how long I've been at it.

I agree on the whole black colour thingy, and not only that, I personally perceive black as in Photoshop black, as flat and somehow, less black than black with a bit of colour mixed into it. I have a delenatii var. vinicolor, and the undersides of the leaves are a dark, dark, wine red, but they look black at a distance. I really dig the foliage on this little Paph.
