As mentioned in earlier posts, they grow wild here in Hawaii. They seem to always have flowers and grow directly on lava rock with some soil (1-2 inches) on top. They always grow in full sun and seem to love the areas with lots of rainfall. Should be fairly easy to grow. Good luck!

They do not like full sun, unless they have lots of water, or they will burn!

I also have a bamboo orchid (purchased at HD) it's really pretty cool, drought tolerant too which in NE Florida is a really cool thing!

The blooms do look alot like catts (no scent though) and only last about two or three days but (mine at least) is a hardly bloomer....kept going for weeks!

i do have a question though, after reading A LOT about these, I saw that one person said that the spent canes should be cut back...there is a ton of new growth and the spent canes are looking pretty bad...any thoughts?
