Fab new haul... for free!
Hi folks! Happy Easter!
This year was a really good one. My friend got confirmed in the morning and then in the afternoon we went to a local house and gardens. With a hydroponicum. Haha! I've got to the point!
So we went into the enormous tropical greenhouse, and there were little booklets on orchid care on a table. Point one, they said they were one pound each, so I took one back to reception and got out my money, whereupon I was told that the head orchid gardener was giving them out for free.
Point two, when we went back to the greenhouse, the aforesaid orchid gardener was sitting at the table. The lady from reception then stuck her head round the door and said "Andy, we've got a girl here who really loves orchids". Whereupon he got up and showed me around, and when he discovered that I knew most of the Latin names of the plants, and how to care for them, he promptly pulled a rooted keiki off a dendrobium and gave it to me.
He said he'd keep it for me until we got back from our walk round the gardens, and when we got back, the keiki was in a bag with SIX other orchids, a bag of home mixed compost, a box of rockwool (For a phrag he was giving me) and the latest issue of the orchid review.
I have so far potted up four of the orchids, and I still have a vanda to pot and a dend kingianum and nobile to mount. Will try to send pictures as soon a I have got it all sorted.
