I don't think the ateroid is going to be visible without a telescope? There's a comet passing though that might just?

Yes, there is a comet we can see, but it is not in the earth's atmosphere. I think it will be visible in North America on Tuesday. Here is a link:

That same link I posted above mentions a different comet coming in November of this year that will be as bright as the moon:
