It is nice to connect with others who share an interest. I belong to an OS, too.

I originally came here because all of my searches for information seemed to lead here. This is my very first forum I've ever participated in. The kindness of everyone and the knowledge found here is just amazing, not to mention member bloom photos that beg me to buy more and more, lol...
I, too, am a member of our local OS. But I can't call someone everyday or I'd look nuts and needy! LOL! So, OB has truly become my outlet and home!

This is simple. I want to learn. I want to share what I've learned. I even like a few people here! I know of no better resource.

I came on board so I would not kill all my orchids. Now I have too many and also not enough.

Thanks for bringing this thread back up Charles.
I first came to OB, over 10 years ago, to learn how to not kill my orchids (I still kill them, but less often and in far more creative ways!). I fell in love with the super friendly bunch of people here, and as a lonely college student, freshly arrived in a foreign country (which I still haven't left) it became a lifeline. I made friends on OB which became friends in the real world too. OB is also my primary source of infomation for everything orchid related. Personal experience of others is far more valuable than any information I could dig up in a book or elsewhere online.
You guys are also the only people to understand my hobby and obsession with orchids, and it is because of you that I keep on adding more to the collection! My boyfriend's remarks are limited to "is that another orchid?" and "how much did you pay for that tiny plant?" (He has since learned to never mention orchids and money in the same sentence, unless he intends to buy me one).

I can't agree more that it's great that you brought this thread up Charles. The OB is My Sanctuary as well. In a deep snow storm here in the Northeast, and have cuddled in and watching the snow and ice outside and surfing the OB! It would be redundant to go into my reasons for coming here because so many of you have told it in these previous posts. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and another wonderful year of growing orchids!

I came here because I looked at all the others I could find, and this one had the most information, and the nicest people.
It is sad to see so many members who haven't posted in years. For example, most of those who began and responded to this thread in 2012. I hope they're OK.

I always wonder when people disappear that have been long-time members or even active for a year or so. I always hope that they are fine and just gave up orchids (I had a friend I met through both a forum and my orchid society that has completely quit orchids so is no longer active in either).
