Looking on their website, I don't see an option for using a discount code.

HOWEVER . . . you can't win if you don't enter! Meaning, there is contact information on their website, you can always e-mail them and ask. If they do offer a discount, please let us know.

It is worth emailing and asking and say you are from Orchid Board. For a long time there was an agreement with Orchid Board and Orchid Wiz to allow discount for OB members. The code kept changing and you had to ask for a new one. No harm in asking if it's still available!

Is there a Mac OSX version? The orchid wiz website has no contact us option for me to ask. I am aware I can run the software virtualised using Parallels or VMWare but I don't intend on shelling out extra money just to run the database. I am also aware I can use VirtualBox which is open source, but my experience with it is it needs a lot of tweaking behind the hood.

The online purchase options appear to be restricted only to US buyers?

Also given that the database is so expensive and invariably becomes out-dated within a year, the cost of yearly updates is prohibitive.

Have it and use it regularly, been a subscriber since version 3 () The cost was not an issue due to the fact that it offers so much information including parentage, pictures, culture, is kept very up to date with taxonomy changes and still offers the Sanders reference for the older names, create you own orchid inventory....the list goes on.

I guess the need for OW would increase with you collection of plants, that's how it was for me.

Was even better before the AOS flexed it muscle to keep the AOS awards data exclusive. I suppose this was to protect their AQ+ program. IMHO AQ+ has a long way to go to even compare to OrchidWiz. Wish that the AOS and OW could have partnered - we would have all benefited from a complete and excellent product.

Thanks Oscarman. Isn't the annual update $90 ie you'd be paying $90 every year to update the software? In 10 years you'd have paid about $1000 including the initial cost of the database.

What is this AQ software? Looks like overseas folks can't purchase Orchid Wiz anyway.

I wouldn't say it is out-dated in a year. It just doesn't have any of the last years new awards for the most part. It is still a huge encyclopedia of orchid species and hybrids with many photos and cultural info. It has a record keeping program which I love using for all of mine. When I got it, when it was re-potted, bloomed etc. etc. I too really like it and use it a lot.

I am a fan of orchid Wiz. It has certainly helped me grow better! I've had it for about 3 years. The license purchase allows for the software on 2 computers. So buddy up and buy one license for 2 people. The halves the cost.

I use to system to look up growing requirements to ensure that whatever I want will work in my environment. i also use it to track my collection (about 130 orchids). I use it to support my OS's auction where I make slides for the plants we are selling. Our profit from our auction has increased due to the added information (pictures, light, temp and media information).

I do purchase the maintenance. It's an indulgence, no doubt about it; and I'm worth it!
