Bucket Orchid (Odd Request)
Default Bucket Orchid (Odd Request)

Hello members of the Orchid Board.

I come to you with an odd request.

I am currently involved with an Alternate Reality Game for the launch of Halo 4.

In order for me, and everyone else in the game, to continue in the game we require a picture.

We need a picture of a real Bucket Orchid (Coryanthes) with some information written on a piece of paper (within the same photo).

The information needs to be:
  • The date + time when the picture was taken.
  • The word: OPVORKID
  • The word: OPFuri

If someone has easy access to a Bucket Orchid would they be able to do this for us? Failing that; does anyone know where Bucket Orchids easily accessible?

Any assistance would be hugely appreciated.

Regards,

OPFuri.

That certainly is an odd request OPFuri. I suspect you may have to explain what a 'bucket orchid' is.
I have some plants that should be put in a bucket but I don't think that is what you are referring to.

You will have to forgive my ignorance towards orchids

From what I (we) understand the plant is called a Coryanthes which is commonly known as a "Bucket Orchid".

They appear to be named after their distictive(?) bucket shape.

I get a bit lost on the specifics and don't have anything more to offer than Wikipedia does. (Unfortunately I cannot link to it; but if you search for Coryanthes you will likely find it).

I see you are from AUS too - I did a quick search to see if I could find any locally, either they don't seem to grow very well in Australia (if it all) or they are not very popular.

It might be too late in the year now for Aussie plants. My neighbour has something which may be a Coryanthes however we won't know for sure until it flowers again as the last time it flowered I didn't get a good chance to go over and look at it, (sounded promising though from the description)

From my observations, bucket orchids should grow nicely if provided with heat and humidity so I don't think hardness or popularity are the reasons that the're rare. You should grab one in spike if you can as quickly as possible as their blooming season is almost over.

Also, what's the game you're involved in? Seems quite odd for a game to request a bucket orchid picture.
