Default Oops, I did it again! My recent haul.

Hello my fellow orchid addicts! Winter is approaching for many of us, which means many plants slow down as we tuck them all inside and the online shopping for orchids slows due to the colder temperatures during shipping ... Well, I decided I needed a couple new babies for my personal collection before old jack frost arrives!

Let's see ....

Lepanthes calodictyon (specimen)
Masdevallia horrida
Lepanthes manabina
Lepanthes telipogoniflora
Epidendrum neoporpax
Dracula vampira
Dracula chimaera
Dendrobium spectabile
Blc. Dora Louise Capen 'Lea'
Blc. Hawaiian Lightning 'Fiesta'
Neofinetia falcata 'Amami' (specimen 8+ fans)
Sc. Crystelle Smith 'Gold Throat' (specimen)
Vanda coerulea
C. warscewiczii var. semi-alba 'Katia'
C. dowiana var. rosita 'Valley Isle'
C. maxima 'Darth Vader'
C. loddigesii var. coerulea 'Blue Max'

... oh and I bought a trio of christmas cactus that were on sale for $1.99 at work.

What do you all think? I think I got a pretty decent group that should hold me over for the winter, and perhaps a few to bring along to the exhibit at the Philly Flower Show & possible the SEPOS show this March.

I'll post pictures as they all start to arrive over the next two weeks! I just have to hope the parents don't find my this months credit card bill. I'm now telling myself (you guys are my witness) that I will not buy another orchid until March/April which will be my bulk import to resell.

Oh I know I've had the bug pretty bad for quite some time now! I hope you and your family weathered Hurricane Sandy safe and sound - I see you aren't too far from me. Did I meet you at the Deleware Valley Speakers Forum few weeks ago? If you don't mind me asking, where in North Jersey are you located? I'm down here in Hammonton.

Here are the guys that just recently came. All of the mini's are going into my terrarium to hopefully finish it up.

Lepanthes calodictyon:

Lepanthes manabina:

Masdevallia horrida:
It's such a tiny little thing. It came in spike but the spike blasted.

Here's a shot of the terrarium thus far:
At this point I'm just waiting on the Epi. neoporpax and Lep. telipogoniflora to mount and it'll be complete.

Dendrobium spectabile:
I had a blooming sized one of these before but got tired of battling scale on it, so I trashed it in hopes of sparing the rest of my collection. Got this NBS guy to replace it.

The next to arrive should be the Neo, Vanda, and the Cattleya hybrids about Wednesday of next week!

I don't think we've met. I'm in Bergen County - Wyckoff (which is between Ridgewood and Franklin Lakes); i.e. NW of NYC. We're still without power, but doing OK - Hardest part is getting gas for the generator. How about you?

Le me know of any good events to attend. I'm not always plugged into what is happening around me.

Sure... March/April is a long way, can you truly last that long?

I got very lucky with this storm, didn't lose power or anything (which is extremely abnormal). I hope things turn up for you soon!

And for sure! There are several addicts here in Jersey that are pretty avid show go-ers. There isn't anything, that I can think of off the top of my head, show wise until early March ... I'll try my best to remind you once they start to come around!

I hope so! I have absolutely no room for these guys as it is - so I'll be spending weeks just trying to figure out where to squeeze them in! And on the other hand, I have my saltwater fish tank just about done cycling and I'll be getting seahorses once again (hopefully by christmas). So those guys will definitely keep me occupied until I can start growing outside again.

Almost everything on the list has arrived! I'm still waiting on the plants for Ecuagenera:

Lepanthes telipogoniflora
Epidendrum neoporpax
Dracula vampira
Dracula chimaera

In the mean time I ran out of potting media and pots for some of the new arrivals - pictures to come by tomorrow evening! I'm loving the scent on Neo. falcata 'Amami' - I can't get enough of it! I want to say it smells like vanilla ... though im not 100% sure.

Here are the pictures as promised! I've included a couple general shots where you'll see some of my other plants (such as the Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis and Sophronitis coccinea '4N'). Unfortunately the Vanda coerulea spike snapped during shipping, but it is forming 2-3 basal keiki's at this time ...

Nice haul! Hope you get the others soon! I wonder how large the Drac. vampira will be. I got mine as a seedling from ecuagenera's booth at $35. Sadly, it died though. Good luck growing!
