Headed to NY
My partner and I are headed to NY for a few days to see Evita on Broadway, go to China Town, and hit the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Any orchid adventure suggestions would also be appreciated!

Enjoy! NY Botanical garden (NYBG) is a highlight which is in the Bronx. NYBG has a terrific orchid collection, so I highly recommend it. I think the Momet exhibit is still underway. New York Botanical Garden
P.S. You can get there on public transportation too

I know that's there's a member living in NYC which frequently goes to a very nice flower market that often has a nice assortment of orchids, a lot of them named. I'll try to look up the posts.

NYC orchidman goes to those flower markets from Brooklyn to Queens and 14th street square in Manhattan .... its on weekends...I also go to some of those but then again I work at night and sleep in the day....
28th street from 5th avenue all the way to 8th Avenue is the flower district of Manhattan
Chinatown on Lafeyette street along Bayard street have some potted orchids and you might chance upon large specimens that you need a cab to haul them home
*dont forget to look up the large 5 ton Grammatophylum orchid at the botanical garden...I hope it is still in bloom

I was just looking up posts, he got nice orchids at the farmer's market on 14th street. Can't believe I didn't go there when I was in NYC 2 years ago!

the 14th street farmer's market is on Thursdays when vendors from suburbian New York and the tri state area display their baking skills and fresh produce from gardens and greenhouse products....on Saturdays it is like a fair but there might be some orchids with some other plants

We did go to the gardens, but the Gramm and others for the most part were out of bloom. Still though, it was quite impressive to see!
We also went to Chinatown, and there were a few, but nothing absolutely smashing that I just had to have, lol...
Off to Florists row today!

I want to see the NYBG in decent bloom. When is the best time to go? I was planning on going for the orchid show this year, but it didn't sound like anything I would really like. I'm hoping this next year will be better. Is that really the best time to go? I don't live to awful far (what really stinks is the trains only stop going up from the city, you have to transfer like three times to get there from the north!- I really wish they would change that!) the drive for me is hard (I don't do well in the car) so I don't want to go and not see as much as I can.
