GRRR squirrels

Here we go again. The #@&*$%* squirrels are into the orchids that are hanging outside. They tore several leaves off a rynchostylis and 2 upper parts of a cattleya type that was in sheath.
We had this problem several years ago with DH's tomatoes and I will have to do what he did at that time.
Out comes the Hav-a-Hart trap and we find the little monsters a new home. My lazy cats are just not keeping them at bay right now, I probably feed them too well.

They can be destructive little boogers. A few months ago the squirrels were feasting on my dendrobium blooms. I baited my shadehouse with strategically placed rubber snakes and they haven't been a problem since.

I know what you mean. Last year the squirrels finally returned to our yard. When we moved into our home, we had a west highland terrier that hunted silently (we trained her to leave our pet bunny and birds alone so she left the outdoor ones alone, too). She cleaned the yard of squirrels, chipmunks, and mice and kept it that way. After that, we had a mutt who loved to chase the squirrels and was very fast. She would catch and release them and could even jump high enough to pull them off the tree when they thought themselves safe (she never hurt them, just terrified them). Our current dogs are useless. The neighbor's cat, though, seems promising.

For me it is the $%&@* chipmunks that dig up the bark from my potted plants. I assume that they are sleeping in the pots of taking the bark somewhere else. I put little spikes in the pots which really helps (but doesn't look very friendly...)
