I hear in the US you only got to see a cut version of the ceremony several hours later grrrrr, so I guess the orchids were probably out. If you can watch it on the BBC Iplayer site you can still see it... but I don't know if it's available overseas.
Here the ceremony started with an introductory film sequence (which was shown on big screens in the stadium I think: I wasn't lucky enough to get a ticket). First a countdown of pictures of numbers (including the 'mini orchids' at £22), followed by a sequence following the river Thames from it's source to the stadium with a few British icons appearing along the way.
I guess I really just wanted to gush about the ceremony a bit... orchids were definitely not the best bit!
If we pretend the cauldron was made out of orchids not 'petals' can we talk about that? LOL
We can't get iPlayer so I didn't even look at it. I've been watching the various BBC channels though! Pretty much been glued to the telly the whole weekend.
Makes you feel like a hypocrite though - let's celebrate the achievements of these dedicated athletes by being couch potatoes.
