Default Sorry for the book, lots to share!

I finally got some new orchids! About time, too!

The first batch I got from Olympic Orchids. Took advantage of their free shipping during their anniversary in May. I am very pleased with her plants, especially the C. Jungle Eyes, which is forming a sheath. Most of what Olympic Orchids sells is seedlings, so this plant was a fantastic surprise and a steal and $10. I got a free Maxillaria variabilis yellow x black, not pictured, which I'm looking forward to growing to blooming size to see what color the blooms turn out to be.

This next batch I ordered from Exotic Orchids of Maui. I had been planning to order from them for some time now, but what finally pushed me to it was that I had to replace a couple orchids I lost a couple weeks ago. My parents were in a car accident and I lost two terrariums, a Calanthe triplicata, my triple-spike Phal. bastianii, and my Phal. stuartiana. Before you ask, "well shouldn't you have been more worried about your parents?" trust me, I was. My dad ended up with a collapsed lung and multiple fractures, my mom had a severely sprained ankle. They are both recovering safely back home in Washington and now I am looking for a used car to replace the one they were driving to Massachusetts for me. I wish I could have shown them where I'm interning now, a botanic garden called Garden in the Woods run by the New England Wildflower Society, but I'm just happy they are ok.

Well, back to orchids. Exotic Orchids had both Phal. bastianii and Phal. stuartiana, so I placed my order to replace the ones I lost. And I bought a few more travel companions to keep them company and comfort me after my loss. Overall happy with Exotic Orchids, too. My only complaints are that the Cattleya araguaiensis doesn't have very healthy roots (though it did arrive in bud), and the foliage of the Phal. stuartiana pales in comparison to the gorgeous leaves of my last plant, given to me by a very generous OB member, which makes me feel worse about losing it.

Potinara (Fire Lighter x Eve Marie Barnette) 'Pauwela Red'
this was a freebie, and one I had strongly considered buying, so I was very happy to get it!

Sorry again for the book. Just had so much to share. I haven't been on OB in the last couple weeks, for obvious reasons.
