Wind, hail and tornadoes!!!! OH MY!!!
I just moved most of my tropicals and orchids outside as the night temps permit, and wouldnt you know that a tornado came within a mile of my house last night!!!! Trees down, shingles on houses missing, but all my plants look unharmed, except for an unfortunate amaryllis that WAS in bloom but is no longer... Don't know how they all survived, but am SOOOO grateful. We were in the basement listening to the roar and I so expected to come back up and find everything decimated or gone! That was a close one!

Lucky, glad to hear everyone....and your orchids survived. Must be pretty scary with that extreme weather. We were hit with a tornado once and it was pretty devastating in parts of the city. Only real scary time that I can remember.

We've been very fortunate here in the city because we're Ina lowland pocket. Most tornados either go north or south of us, but this year has been different. Not sure why. It was odd though. I watched the sky grow dark and just thought it was night dark, not paying attention to the time. Then the winds picked up fierce and they sky went eerie green! Haven't seen that in years, since I moved out of Kansas, aka. Tornado Alley. I screamed upstairs, "Grab the dogs and run to the basement!!!!!". My heart is still racing...

At least you're safe. Can't imagine what that would be like. Bred and born in the caribbean , so have experience with hurricanes but not tornadoes

Wow that's scary! But who cares about orchids in a time like that? They would have been the furthest thing from my mind. But very glad they all survived it and you didn't have any damage.
I feel lucky over here. No hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes... Only the risk of flooding, but I am save on the 20th floor.

OMG, Soooo glad you are ok. Orchdis can be replaced.
I know how scary it is to be near a tornado. Once ripped through Queens NYC about two years ago (nearly unheard of before), and at one point before I realized it was tornado I saw all the trees in my neighborhood swaying like they were about to snap. Then I found out the tornado hit about 2 miles away from my apartment. Can't imagine what it was like where the tornado hit. And it was the weakest category.
Glad you and your family made it!
