OrchidWiz and YOUR pictures

Hi everyone, daily as I browse through all the wonderful posts here at the OB I see outstanding photos of a huge variety of orchids.

For those of you who have used OrchidWiz, you know what a great reference source it can be for all types of orchid information. I seem to use it almost daily!

Whether a OW user or not, did you know that you can share your wonderful pictures with all the OW users in the world and receive photo credit for them?

OrchidWiz continually accepts orchid photographs and uses them to enhance the content of this great program/ They rely on the generosity of growers like myself and you.

As I use the software it is disappointing when you cannot see an actual picture of the flower, especially of the older crosses that have long since faded away.

So what is all this about? It is a call, to all of you. Please consider sharing your picture with OrchidWiz. The software will just keep improving with our modest contribution.

Why not do it now, look in you picture folders. Find some good shots of the plants you have grown or photographed at shows and contact OW to find out how they can help.

I am and have 27 pics to date that I am going to send in.

in principle I agree with you........however as far as I know, at least with Orchidwiz Express, they don't do software updates via download and you have to pay for any updates ! If you can get some sort of credit in exchange for photos, that would be great...

You'll have to sign a release with your pictures, but they mail you the form right back when you email them.

Q: May I contribute my own photos to the OrchidWiz Encyclopedia?
A: Yes you may. We would be delighted to have your photos. You may submit them in any format. It is best if you burn them onto a CD or DVD and mail it to OrchidWiz, 145 NE 95th Street, Miami Shores, FL 33138. You may also email your digital photos to the address noted on the front page of this web site. We require that you sign a disclaimer certifying the copyright belongs to you and you are giving OrchidWiz permission for a permanent display. OrchidWiz reserves the right to select photos for publication.

Q: If I contribute photos, will you credit me?
A: Yes, every digital photo is credited to the owner. Also, OrchidWiz will shrink all photos to a low resolution (maximum 640 x 640 pixels) before including them in a release. OrchidWiz includes photos for identification and analytical purposes only. OrchidWiz does not publish photos for artistic or aesthetic value. We do not compete with professional photographers.

OrchidWiz is very much like other software, you buy it and then when a new version is released you pay for the upgrade.

With OW the $90.00 Annual Maintenance fee gives you 4 updates, one of which includes the next new version. Given that each of the updates often includes several mini upgrades in addition to all the plant info, it seems reasonable. I imagine a lot of work goes into each upgrade.

Personally, mailing a disk of pictures costs me little to help improve a great tool for many.
