Perhaps they could only have done it by getting some of the major nurseries involved, which would have meant bringing that commercial side into it?
Just speculating... agree it would have been nice if they'd have had at least some areas displaying natural plants. And by the sound of it better labelling would have been good too.
It still looks rather fabulous though... and having recently done London (not so well as you...) I can vouch for editing, sorting and putting up the pictures being a pain!

My personal opinion is that for a scientific institution like NYBG, and a year of planning, they could have reached out to the community the way orchid shows sponsored by orchid societies, and gotten lots of species plants in flower.
To be fair, its easy for me to say all this. Im not the one given the task of planning this.
Also, they do have lots of permanent display mounted orchids all over the conservatory, but only a few were in flower (see the last pic of post 4 and first two pics of post 6).
Like I said in the first post, they could have at least done more educate the public about the different types of orchids, which types are native to the NYC area or US, and at least a poster exhibit on some biotypes.
Also I really think they messed up by not teaching the public how to make green walls, i mean, if you tube can do it.
NYBG offers some more information on the exhibit, like a little on biology of orchids, but its only at certain times.

There is also a cell phone tour. I did not dial the numbers so I don't know what they discuss. Maybe if I go again in a week or two I can share the phone number to dial with Orchid Board.

Hey guys, great news!!
I just remembered that when I went I did the cell phone tour of the tropical blueberries. The phone number is the same for the orchid tours. The only problem is I don't know the stop numbers for the orchids.
The number is
7183629561
when you get connected, you can either listen to the intro, or press the stop number to hear the part of the tour you want.
you press 42# to hear about tropical blueberries
and just by playine around I found that they have some info on cloud forest orchids if your press
41#.
Enjoy!!!

Looks like they have quite a good program of talks: you might want to check them out if you go again. But if it's going on that long they definitely should have sorted some better labelling!

Thanks, Tindo! I may just have to get to NYC before April 22.
