Daethen, since I'm new to orchids (about 1 year) and am a windowsill grower, I stick to the more common genera. My most "exotic" orchid is a Psychopsis. I also buy only plants in low spike or bud, if I can't get it to bloom in the future, I've at least seen the flowers once. I never buy seedlings. At my age, I can't afford to wait for years for flowers. So this should give you an idea what I'm bidding on.
Right now I am after Tolumnia, they are cute, pretty, don't take up much space and do well for me. :)

I usually go for whatever hits me as pretty that is not too demanding. Catts, paphs, phals and some onc.

Carpe Diem,That is the way I buy mine also and for the same reason..lol I would be really mad if I nursed a seedling along for 5 years and just as the buds are starting to open for the first time and I keel over REALLLLY mad...lol Jean

Daethen, I too buy what appeals to me at the moment. Right now that is Tolumnia. I have a variety of orchids and will give away the ones that are not doing to great in my growing conditions. That's the plan anyway.
